Your guide to Breck, peak by peak

Breck360 is an independent guide to Breckenridge Ski Resort. Every peak, every lift and the best ways to link them up, plus live webcams, weather and town info so you can plan the day before you're standing in the Quicksilver line.

The resort sits on the east side of the Tenmile Range, and the town is the base: 9,600 feet up, with a free gondola from the edge of town to Peaks 7 and 8. It's big (2,908 acres), it's high, and it rewards a plan.

Our favourite route

See Breck in a day

One day, all five peaks, no backtracking. It works best mid-week with the upper mountain open. Start south, finish north, and ski home to town on Four O'Clock.

Intermediate legs all the way. Strong skiers can add the bowls off Imperial and Kensho.

  1. Quicksilver SuperChair, Peak 9. Ride up to TenMile Station while everyone else queues at Peak 8, then warm up on the blues off Mercury.
  2. Peak 8 SuperConnect. Cross over and lap the Colorado SuperChair once.
  3. Imperial SuperChair, if it's spinning. Tops out at 12,840 ft. You're here for the view over Summit County.
  4. Independence SuperChair, Peak 7. Long, rolling groomers. Do two laps.
  5. Kensho SuperChair, Peak 6. Above-treeline terrain. Best on a clear afternoon.
  6. Four O'Clock home. Back to Peak 8, then ski all the way down to town. Busy after 3pm, so go slow.
Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.

Breck FAQ

How high is Breckenridge, and will the altitude get to me?

Town sits at about 9,600 ft and the Imperial SuperChair tops out at 12,840 ft, so most people feel it on day one. Drink more water than you think you need, go easy on the beers the first night, and don’t plan your hardest day first.

How do I get to Breck from Denver airport?

It’s roughly 100 miles: I-70 west to Frisco (exit 203), then Highway 9 south. Allow about two hours in good conditions and a lot longer on a snowy Saturday. Shared shuttles run from DEN if you’d rather not drive the passes.

Is the BreckConnect Gondola free?

Yes. It runs from town to Peak 7 and on to the Peak 8 base, and runs continuously through the day.

Do I need a car in Breckenridge?

Not really. The town’s Free Ride buses loop between town, the bases and most lodging, and the resort runs a free shuttle between Peaks 7, 8 and 9. Slope-side parking is limited and mostly paid.

Which peak is best for beginners?

Start at the Peak 8 or Peak 9 base areas, where the learning terrain is. Leave Peak 6 and the bowls above treeline for another trip.
